❓ The power of deep questions
Deep questions are a game-changer in conversations. Instead of focusing on the facts of someone's life, consider asking how they feel about their experiences. This slight shift can open floodgates of conversation, providing insight into a person's values and the significance they attribute to their experiences. For example, instead of inquiring where someone went to college, ask about the best part of their college experience. This digs into what mattered to them about college, making the conversation more engaging and meaningful. This approach transcends surface-level talk, and it's a tool anyone can master with a slight adjustment in thinking.
🌟 Trust yourself for success
Trust in oneself is an instrumental principle to success. This isn't just about self-confidence, but a deeper belief in one's judgment and decision-making abilities. It's a reminder to rely on personal perceptions and intellect, even when faced with external influences or self-doubt. It's about having conviction in one's decisions, whether that's launching a business or making significant changes in your life. There's value in the perspectives we form through our senses and intellect, and they deserve respect. Of course, trusting oneself doesn't mean always being right. It involves taking risks. But the beauty lies in trusting that you can handle the outcomes of those risks, regardless of whether they pay off or not.
📉 Embracing the temporary nature of order
Entropy applies to every part of our lives. It is inescapable, and even if we try to ignore it, the result is a collapse of some sort. Understanding entropy leads to a radical change in the way we see the world. Ignorance of it is responsible for many of our biggest mistakes and failures. We cannot expect anything to stay the way we leave it. To maintain our health, relationships, careers, skills, knowledge, societies, and possessions requires never-ending effort and vigilance. Disorder is not a mistake; it is our default. Order is always artificial and temporary.
Two questions to ask yourself: What's working for you that you'd be crazy to change? What's not working for you, and you'd be crazy not to change?
✨ Letting your aliveness guide you
I want to be compassionate. I want to be honest. I want to be willing to be wrong. I want to be tethered to the hearts of those who differ from me as much as I am to those who are similar. I want to have more conviction in what I know. I want to stay open to the mystery. I want to do my small part and not constantly wonder if it’s enough. I want to be of service. I want to feel my own feelings before throwing them at someone else. I want to be kind beyond niceness. I want to stay rooted to what’s possible not as a measure of fake positivity, but as a measure of practiced hope. I want to tend to what’s around me and start close in. I want to believe in my own desires and needs as much as I believe in that of others. I want to try. I want to allow. I want to let my aliveness guide me.
