✍🏼 Notes on writing to think
I think until we write our ideas down, our thoughts remain incomplete. Writing forces precision. It reveals gaps, inconsistencies, the illusions of clarity that exist only in our minds. An idea may feel whole when left unexamined, but the moment we attempt to articulate it, the gaps become undeniable. This is why those who never write never truly know—not in the way they assume.
Good thinking is about pushing past your current understanding and reaching the thought behind the thought.
Seeing your ideas crumble can be a frustrating experience, but it is the point if you are writing to think. You want it to break. It is in the cracks the light shines in.

🌊 Aligning with life instead of resisting it
Ever feel like you're swimming against the current, pushing harder only to end up further from your goal? You're not alone. The ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu recognized this human tendency to force things, often leading to counterproductive results.
The concept of Wu-Wei, or "non-action" is not about passive inaction, but rather aligning with the natural flow of the universe. Imagine a leaf floating effortlessly down a stream - that's Wu-Wei in action.
Lao Tzu's teachings emphasize trust over control, flexibility over rigidity. It's about letting go of our intellectual constructs and engaging with the world as it truly is. This doesn't mean abandoning all effort, but rather finding a state of effortless action - being "in the zone" where action and awareness merge.
But how do we achieve this state? It starts with releasing mental strain and the analysis paralysis that often holds us back. By quieting our minds and trusting in the process, we can tap into a more responsive, flexible state of being.
The next time you find yourself forcing an outcome, pause. Consider how you might align with the natural flow instead of fighting against it. You might just find that by doing less, you accomplish more.

🪤 The trap of mediocrity
About half of my friends kind of hate their jobs, so they're moderately unhappy most of the time, but never unhappy enough to leave. This is the mediocrity trap: situations that are bad-but-not-too-bad keep you forever in their orbit because they never inspire the frustration it takes to achieve escape velocity.

🏃🏻 A simple test to gauge your mobility
Want a simple way to gauge your mobility and vitality as you age? Try the sit-and-rise test: sit cross-legged on the floor, then stand back up without using your hands or knees for support. Sounds easy? Give it a try now.
Struggling to rise without assistance signals stiffness and joint limitations, the same ones that restrict movement and quietly erode quality of life. Over time, modern habits—endless sitting, minimal floor contact—take a toll, introducing a “session cost” to daily life.
The fix? Reintroduce floor time. Sit cross-legged while reading, kneel while playing with your kids, shift between seated positions. The more time you spend on the ground, the more you reclaim the strength and fluidity modern life strips away.
