🇬🇷 I will be taking a break from the newsletter next week as I'll be visiting my family in Greece.
💡 Unseen roots of wisdom
Even if you forget an experience or what you read, its effect on your model of the world persists. Your mind is like a compiled program you've lost the source of. It works, but you don't know why. Each spell state had early roots, every moment of struggle was essential friction. Like an inward spiral, each brings you closer to your center. Even if you forget it now, it’s already become a part of you. Disentanglement is impossible. All of it developed the self who can do the work you’re meant to do.
🌱 The art of simplicity
I believe the way toward mastery of any endeavor is to work toward simplicity; replace complex technology with knowledge. The more you know, the less you need. From my feeble attempts at simplifying my own life I’ve learned enough to know that should we have to, or choose to, live more simply, it won’t be an impoverished life but one richer in all the ways that really matter.

🔄 The cycle of satisfaction
Life satisfaction ebbs and flows in response to our expectations. As young adults, we're often overly optimistic, envisioning a rosy future that might not materialize, which leads to perpetual disappointment. On the other hand, older individuals typically hold a pessimistic outlook, envisioning a bleak future—only to find reality pleasantly surpassing their expectations. Ambitious drives and social comparisons can fuel our early life stages productively, yet these same factors can bite back in our later years, potentially triggering a life satisfaction dip. Furthermore, the social isolation that can set in during our 40s and 50s can make life more interior, resulting in a loss of connection with communities—a factor known to be detrimental to satisfaction levels.
🌀 The illusion of time management
As long as time is a resource to be properly allocated, we must be assessing the success of the moment we’re in. And as long as we are doing that, it is impossible to enjoy the moment as much as possible. The only moments we end up fully enjoying are the ones which are so obviously Good that the evaluation hum shuts off. We get wrenched out of our assessment and forced into presence. Time just is. It cannot be saved. It cannot be spent. It can only pass, whether you like it or not. And the more time you spend with your eyes glazed over, worried about whether your time is being spent well or not, the more of your life you’re missing out on.
The more I learn to stop judging the time spent and simply pay close attention to whatever I’m doing, the more I enjoy it. Life isn’t in the memories of past bookmarks, nor is it in the future ones you hope to come. It’s entirely in this very moment. And it’s only possible to fully enjoy the moment if you are not judging it. Each moment is your life, and the only way to waste it is by wondering if you’re wasting it.
